How Open is Open? The Future of Open Pedagogy
8:45 AM - 9:15 AMFull Abstract
The working definition adopted by the FACT2 Open Pedagogy group is: “Open Pedagogy encourages faculty and students to engage in the co-development of knowledge, allowing authentic contributions that will continue to be shared and built upon. Open Pedagogy includes learning processes and products that are open, collaborative and accessible while promoting practices that support innovations in learner choice, agency, and curriculum.” Open Pedagogy challenges the source and agency of knowledge and shifts the nature of the classroom.
Over the last year, the FACT2 Open Pedagogy group explored trends and practices, policies, and new developments in Open Pedagogy within SUNY and across the nation. In this session, the team will share these findings and engage participants in a discussion about Open Pedagogy, how these concepts can be integrated within current practices, and the impact of Open Pedagogy on the future of teaching and learning. This session is for all levels of interest, from those just hearing about Open Pedagogy for the first time to those already engaging open pedagogical practices within their classrooms.
