Description: HabWorlds is an online course build on an adaptive learning platform designed to provide a new and engaging way of teaching science to non-science majors. In the webinar, Ariel Anbar, the creator of Habworlds, will discuss how adaptive learning techniques are used to help improve student learning outcomes.

Title: Implementing Adaptive Learning: Lessons Learned from Northern Arizona University

Description: Proponents of adaptive learning make powerful promises about how this tool can level the playing field and meet each student where they’re at. This is true, but it’s not the whole story. Join us to discuss what to do and what not to do when adopting adaptive learning in your courses based on faculty experience at Northern Arizona University. Flower Darby will present lessons learned from adaptive implementations at NAU and provide time for discussion and questions as well. Flower is a Senior Instructional Designer, adjunct faculty, facilitator of the 2017-2018 NAU Faculty Learning Community on Adaptive Learning, and author, with James M. Lang, of Small Teaching Online (forthcoming, June 2019).

Title: Effective Use of the Waymaker Economics Platform

Description: Steve Greenlaw will discuss how Lumen Learning’s Waymaker Economics platform can be used to provide students with a personalized learning experience that has been demonstrated to improve student learning. Dr. Greenlaw is the author of the Waymaker Economics pplatform (as well as of the OpenStax Principles of Economics text). He uses Waymaker in his introductory economics classes at the University of Mary Washington.

Title: Waymaker+Statistics = Improved Student Performance

Description: Waymaker is a platform that embeds into an LMS such as Blackboard. Waymaker enhances student learning by pinpointing misunderstood statistical concepts from quizzes; creating an active reading environment; offering immediate feedback via automatic, personalized emails; and identifying which students are struggling with the content. Data analysis of student performance and some student email interactions will be shared.
