Description

"The U.S. Department of Education issued Final Rules on Distance Education and Innovation in September 2020, rules went into effect on July 1, 2021. New regulatory definitions of distance education require that institutions ensure regular, scheduled, predictable, and substantive academic interaction (RSI) between a student and an instructor(s). Including regular and substantive interaction in courses is more than a federal requirement, it can be intentionally embedded into the course design and is also a hallmark of effective course delivery. The goals of this presentation will be to: • Provide an overview of the new regulations and definitions. • Build awareness of the importance of addressing RSI regulations in online course design and teaching. • Update the community on the OSCQR/RSI workgroup project and provide a status of their work. • Build awareness of RSI, resources available, suggested practices. • Solicit feedback from the community.
