Committed to guiding students along their academic journey, the Student Success Center at Genesee Community College is a place students are easily linked to their “go-to person,” find answers to questions, connect with resources, and receive individualized attention and support, leading to student success. This presentation will showcase GCC’s holistic advising model, including its strengths and areas for growth. There will be an opportunity for participants to share ideas and initiatives throughout the presentation.

The integration of admissions, academic and career coaching, financial aid, records, and student accounts provides a centralized and efficient experience in an inviting and friendly environment. Student Success Coaches incorporate almost all enrollment functions for their individually assigned student populations, avoiding the need for students to shuffle from one office to the next. These all help provide students with transparency and understanding in their academic journey and all that is involved in their overall success.

GCC’s Student Success Coaches aim to eliminate hurdles, focus on relationship building, empower students, and lead coaching conversations with the end in mind; using goal setting and creating academic success plans that span beyond graduation day. GCC’s Student Success Coaches are successful in their role as a result of the high value placed on inter-office collaboration, the willingness to infuse technology into advising processes, and consistent communication with students and the campus as a whole.
