Faculty-student partnerships in Applied Learning
10:45 AM - 12:00 PMFull Abstract
SUNY Potsdam’s Lougheed Center for Applied Learning is proud to present a panel discussion between pairs of stakeholders – a faculty member, and one of their students – who will discuss the impact of applied learning, broadly defined, on their academic lives. Jenica Rogers, Dorf Endowed Director of Applied Learning at SUNY Potsdam, will lead the discussion, asking each pair to describe their experiences with faculty-led international travel, undergraduate field research, service learning, internships, and more. She will lead a candid discussion on the impact of applied learning on the teaching experience, as well as on the learning experience. Faculty and students will reflect the new Lougheed Center for Applied Learning, and how it has changed their campus life, as well as share their success stories and challenges with applied learning in a rural region. Attendees will learn about the power of applied learning in multiple disciplines, hear analysis of real-life challenges and solutions, and will have the opportunity to listen to the stories of a diverse group of students and faculty.
Participants will be identified at a later date, but are likely to include pairs from Public Health and Human Performance, Biology, Criminal Justice, Business Administration, GIS, and Environmental Studies. Some participants may be remote, via streaming video.
