2023 Student Success Summit

Virtual April 26-28, 2023

SUNY campuses increasingly recognize the importance of being student-ready and culturally responsive, thus meeting students where they are in order to facilitate the co-creation and attainment of personal, academic, and professional goals. This conference will focus on evidence and results-based practices that prioritize a diversity of student voices and experiences to ensure relevant and sustainable sources of equitable and timely assistance focusing on the whole student.

The Summit is free to SUNY and will be held virtually in 2023. Please check back for more information regarding proposal submission, registration and speakers.

Summit Tracks

Developing Comprehensive First-Year Experience/Orientation Programs

This track is focused on proposals featuring innovative and comprehensive first-year experience and orientation programs. Additionally, how do these programs incorporate and/or collaborate with academic advising for first year and transfer student populations.

Designing Holistic Supports for Adult Students

The needs presented by adult college students are often quite different than those of traditionally aged students. In addition to attending college, many adults also work full-time and balance academic work with complex professional and personal obligations. This track will focus on the refined needs of specific populations:

  • Learners with disabilities and accommodation requests
  • Adult learners with active military or veteran status

This track will also investigate both online learning and non-credit to credit pathways as flexible, stackable routes by which courses, certificates, micro credentials, and degrees may be offered.

Enhancing Student Retention Strategies Post-Pandemic

This track is focused on proposals featuring innovative, student retention strategies that colleges have used following the pandemic.

  • Developing student pathways
  • Onboarding strategies to increase student success
  • Holistic advising approaches,
  • Retention and persistence programs focused on equitable support for students

Student Coaching and Mentoring Models

Over the past several years, colleges have developed different programs and models to use coaching/coaches and mentoring/mentors to support student onboarding, retention, persistence, and success. Some models are designed to incorporate coaching and/or mentoring into academic advising approaches used, whereas others offer specific coaching and/or mentoring services in addition to academic advising.

Promising High-Impact Practices

In a constantly changing learning environment, we must strive to engage students in modern applications of their growing knowledge and abilities. This track will focus on the many significant ways in which we are able to encourage students to invest their time to participate in veritable learning opportunities.
