Women in it empowerment:

Charting your path.

SUNY WIT x SUNY Center for professional development presents:

Women in IT Empowerment: Charting your Path

Women are very underrepresented in technology fields. Women made up only 38% of the overall higher education IT workforce in a 2019 Educause report. The report also states that IT as a function has very low representation of women across corporate functions in a wide range of industries, comprising only 26% of IT employees.

Representation matters. "A lack of representation for women in tech can hinder a woman's ability to succeed in the industry. It can put limits on their opportunities for mentorship and sponsorship and can lend to fostering 'unconscious gender bias in company culture,' leaving many women 'without a clear path forward,' according to a report from TrustRadius."

About SUNY WIT:

The SUNY WIT is an inclusive and diverse organization working to connect people identifying as women and their allies in traditional IT (information technology), libraries and other SUNY functional offices with strong technology roles (such as admissions, athletics, institutional research, impact analysts, academic departments, student success functions, instructional design, and campus facilities).

The initiative serves to engage the IT communities in direct efforts to advance the social justice and equity goals of SUNY, improve the SUNY employer brand, educate on expanding definitions of IT, and contribute to new appreciations of the documented benefits of diverse, solution oriented, resilient organizations.
