Lessons Learned: Being Proactive, What We Do, and Why
3:45 PM - 5:00 PMFull Abstract
Creating an accessible digital culture within a college campus requires collaboration and effort from multiple departments and constituencies. Through a process of trial and error that consisted of pockets of proactivity while responding to campus needs, we determined we must move towards a coordinated model of accessibility. Various groups were formed, and a coalition of the willing was brought together to work towards creating an overall culture shift to better address accessibility needs on campus. We use the lessons learned on our roundabout journey to help others learn how to move forward more directly. In this panel discussion, we’ll discuss planting the seeds of institutional change, how to enable everyone to do their part, developing strong support networks on and off-campus, and the revelation of how accessible the word "accessible" is.
