Online Education and Digital Inclusion: Innovation and Challenges (SUNY Online)

10:30 AM - 11:30 AM

Full Abstract

Higher education instruction is increasingly relying on more instructional modalities. Traditional face-to-face course delivery is no longer the sole instructional methodology. Each year across the SUNY system, the percent of students studying online and in a hybrid (on campus and online) mode is increasing. SUNY’s campuses have over twenty years of experience delivering high quality courses and degree programs online. Currently SUNY has over 600 online degree programs; close to 200,000 students taking at least one course online each year of which approximately 27,000 students are enrolled fully online. The SUNY Online initiative aims to increase the number of full time online learners through targeted degree programs delivered at scale to meet labor market needs while attracting non-traditional learners. Learning management systems, instructional design, and faculty experience and culture are critical variables in digital inclusion. This session will present the SUNY Online initiative’s early experiences with electronic information access and compliance.
