EIT Accessibility College-Level Committee Work: Lessons Learned

2:20 PM - 2:50 PM

Full Abstract

In the presentation, we will share notes from the work of a college-wide EIT Accessibility committee. Even though the work is in the beginning stages, we will be able to discuss the committee membership, the planning process, preliminary successes, challenges, and lessons learned to date.

The College has a substantial online presence, which makes creating a college-wide EIT accessibility plan a decision that is based not only on SUNY mandate, but also on ethical, academic, legal, and economic necessity. The College is committed to providing access to all its students, faculty, and staff. Now with the existence of the committee, the commitment will be verbalized and operationalized. This process will be discussed during the presentation.

The expected lessons learned will most likely involve personnel and communication.

The presentation will be interactive and the participants will be asked to discuss their experiences with the planning process. We hope to share our observations, but also learn from experiences of other campuses.
