An Introduction to Web Accessibility Testing
12:05 PM - 1:00 PMFull Abstract
Evaluating websites for accessibility is the cornerstone of a web accessibility program. While automated testing tools have their place, a comprehensive testing protocol that includes automated, manual, and functional testing is required for ongoing compliance. In this presentation, Mark will cover:
• How user personas help guide testing
• How to determine which pages to test
• Why automated testing tools find at best only 30% - 35% of accessibility issues
• A demonstration of popular automated tools, including why results can vary widely
• How to conduct manual testing, with a focus on testing with a keyboard
• How to conduct a functional test using a screen reader
This presentation is for anyone interested in the basics of accessibility testing. Advanced technical skills are not required.
