"Business" of Starting up a Teaching & Learning Center or Revitalizing One

1:15 PM - 1:50 PM

Presentation Description

Starting up a Teaching & Learning Center and/or revitalizing an existing Center.

Participants will
*Construct individual road maps for starting or revitalizing a Teaching & Learning Center.

*Identify key "market" questions to meet the needs of their audience.

*Strategize ways to work around roadblocks and "market" changes.

This session centers around improving our work as faculty and staff liaisons, leaders, and developers; who are seeking advice, ideas, and methods of best practice to be effective.

This topic aligns with the Chancellors call for
Innovation & Entrepreneurship. I see a Teaching & Learning Center from the reference point of an entrepreneur starting up a business. The business is selling the concept of better teaching=better learning. You have to promote your product, build a customer base, and sustain demand for the product.

Having a roadmap and a vision can help guide your development of a thriving Teaching & Learning Center. Market research and product development are key to the success of your "business". Partnerships and support networks will assure sustainability. Identifying "competitors", and reimagining your products can help with roadblocks and a changing "marketplace".

This session is designed to be inspirational, interactive, and participants will walk away with a plan of action.
