Putting SRIs in Their Place

10:45 AM - 12:00 PM

Presentation Description

This interactive workshop provides current research information on Student Ratings of Instruction and a tool to use with faculty to analyze and interpret their own SRI data. Despite having well-designed instruments and protocols for assessing student perception of instruction, SUNY faculty often experience very high stress levels in dealing with their own SRIs.

Participants will:
1. Explore faculty perceptions about Student Ratings of Instruction (SRIs)
2. Identify strategies for interpreting SRI data to improve individualized education
3. Practice helping faculty integrate SRI evidence into personal narratives

Two major research articles form the workshop’s theoretical base and handouts/links will be provided. We address common concerns and misinformation, putting SEIs into institutional context. We provide questions and prompts for faculty members as they analyze their own SRI data to improve and document their teaching.

The extended workshop format permits lecture, participant interaction, and hands-on learning of a new activity. Susanne Morgan’s expertise is based on long experience working with faculty at Ithaca College and multiple campus and conference presentations. She was a faculty member at the 2017 POD Institute for New Faculty Developers.
