Innovative Educational Technology Informing Future Research and Practice

Presentation Description

Technology has become an undeniable entity in healthcare and education, allowing for the complete transformation of how education is delivered. Technology can be asset in the higher education classroom providing a conduit for active, application-level learning. Historically, technology has been used to support traditional pedagogy, but has not transformed education in an impactful way. While improving the flexibility, accessibility and quality of education is a strong foundation, technology should be employed in a way that places faculty to act as facilitators in the classroom and elevate the learning to a higher level of Bloom’s taxonomy. Research has been conducted in the past 5 years on the transformation of evidence based pedagogy using emerging technology. This session will focus on introducing faculty to new technologies and providing tangible examples for technology integration in the classroom.

After attending this session, participants will:
1. Articulate theories supporting technology integration in education.
2. Outline barriers to student and faculty adaption to technology use in education
3. Develop innovative approaches to didactic education using technology.

The audience will be engaged to participate in the discussion around innovative approaches to education while brainstorming ideas for their own courses and establishing active learning strategies across disciplines.
