The Opening Session, September 23, 10:00 -11:30 am
The opening session will include an introduction to Empire State College's mentoring model, as well as details about the year-long program (Mid-year workshop, Closing session, monthly Open Mics). We will also include time for questions and suggestions for future sessions.
A Monthly Facilitated Open-Mic Check-In
Each month during the 2020-2021 academic year, participants will attend an “open mic” session (Days/Times TBD) in which they discuss issues, questions and problems faced by new faculty. These one hour sessions will serve as opportunities for new mentors to share concerns and to get feedback from others. (These sessions are intended as nonjudgmental forums; no questions are inconsequential; discussions among colleagues stay within the confines of our group.)
The Midyear Workshop (Day/Time TBD)
This online workshop will take up some of the concerns that have been raised by the participants during the fall. The workshop will feature guests who will provide information and insights and suggestions relevant to this cohort of new 2020-2021 colleagues.
Closing the Year (Day/Time TBD)
In this closing online webinar/workshop, we will review the first year experience of new colleagues, raising questions and concerns and thinking, particularly, about next steps beyond this opening year. For example, what kinds of supports do colleagues need as they move into their second year? What resources should be made available? What questions remain? How can we help?
